Weichtalhaus
The ideal base for climbers and hikers in the heart of the Höllental valley
Since the 1920s, the Weichtalhaus in the Höllental valley has been a popular accommodation for climbers and hikers. Following renovation work in 2015, you can not only stay there overnight, but also take courses – because since then, the house has its own training and climbing centre.
In the Höllental valley, idyllically situated between Schneeberg and Rax, stands the modern “Weichtalhaus” at 560 m above sea level. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the light Wetterstein limestone rocks with umbrella-shaped black pines. And from the house terrace, you can hear the Schwarza river rushing past the house.
A climbing paradise for both beginners and extreme athletes
The Weichtalhaus is particularly popular with climbers for the accommodation it provides. Climbing courses are offered directly on location in the climbing centre. But even outside the centre, there are more than 2,000 tours to choose from in the Höllental valley – including well-secured routes for beginners and families, as well as sport climbing routes for extreme climbers. If the sun is shining, climbing is also possible in winter.
Ideal location for via ferrata walkers and hikers
The Höllental valley also offers great opportunities for via ferrata day tours. Six via ferrata approaches (all A to B) can be reached in less than an hour from the Weichtalhaus: Weichtalklamm, Wachthüttlklamm, Teufelsbadstubensteig, Gustav-Jahn-Steig, Gaislochsteig, Ernst-Graf-Hoyos-Steig.
When it comes to hiking the 1. Wiener Wasserleitungsweg along the crystal-clear Schwarza river is particularly recommended. The entire route leads from Hirschwang through the Höllental to Kaiserbrunn.
Cosy rooms and camps for groups
If you are taking a climbing course at the Weichtalhaus or are simply too tired to drive home after a day tour, it is best to stay overnight in one of the cosy rooms on offer. There is a choice of one double and three multi-bed rooms, as well as two camps with bunk beds (ideal for school classes and climbing groups). Catering is, of course, available directly in-house.
Arrival:
You can reach the Weichtalhaus on foot, with the regional bus 341 from Payerbach or by car. You can park directly at the large car park next to the house.
Opening hours: All year round from Thursday to Monday, from 9 a.m
