The Wechsel Panorama Trail
Multiple starting points for classic cross-country and skating trails: For cross-country skiers, no route is better than the 60-kilometre (approx. 37.2-mile) Wechsel Panorama Trail.
The entire Wechsel Panorama Trail in the Viennese Alps takes in some of the most beautiful views of the Wechsel at over 1,000 metres (approx. 3,281 feet) above sea level. This not only guarantees wonderful panoramic views, but also means that snow is all but certain.
At around 60 km (approx. 37.2 mi), the Wechsel Panorama Trail is the first port of call for all cross-country skiers in the Viennese Alps. With groomed slopes from the beginning of December to mid-March – so long as there is enough snow to groom – the trail runs through diverse terrains and is also divided into shorter loops. The entire trail is at least 1,000 m (approx 3,281 ft) above sea level and offers glorious panoramic views over Schneeberg, Rax, Wechsel and the surrounding regions.
Starting points and tickets
Along the Wechsel Panorama Trail there are several starting points where you can pick up tickets. The Steyersberger Schwaig near Kirchberg am Wechsel is particularly recommended, thanks to its own practice and training area. Other starting points: Mönichkirchen Mariensee ski resort, Feistritzsattel, Kummerbauerstadl Alpine Guesthouse and Dissauer Guesthouse.
Refreshment stops
Along the trail there are several popular chalets offering a chance for some rest and rejuvenation. In addition to the Steyersberger Schwaig, the Kummerbauer Stadl, with its hearty home-cooked meals, is particularly tempting.
