SÜDBAHN Museum Mürzzuschlag
Description
Only 20 minutes by car from the spa town of Semmering, the Südbahnmuseum is located in Mürzzuschlag in Styria. And the people of Mürzzuschlag know all about railroads. After all, they built the first railroad connection to Graz in 1844. This line later became - after the completion of Carl Ritter von Ghega's Semmering Railway - an important part of the Southern Railway from Vienna to Trieste.
What to expect during a visit to the Südbahnmuseum:
- The departure hall: a jewel of bygone days with ticket office, coffee wagon and kiosk.
- Locomotive assembly hall: here visitors get an overview of railroad history.
- Roundhouse: since 2007, the home of Austria's largest collection of trolley cars, motor coaches and two-way vehicles. In addition, you can still see electric locomotives there. The highlights for many visitors: the 180.01 steam locomotive and Ferdinand Porsche's C train.
- Children's adventure trail through the museum: offers an entertaining and exciting museum visit for young and old.
