Hiking, biking & golf – a lot is going on in the Rax and Semmering region

The region around the 2,000m high Raxalpe is perfect for a hiking trip, a tour along the fixed-rope route, or a ride on the Rax Aerial Ropeway. Reichenau an der Rax and Payerbach are two especially beautiful locations in the commuter belt of the mountain range. Today, families spend hiking holidays here. Great thinkers like Freud and Frankle, and even the Austrian royal family, were won over by the charm of the Rax region during summer journeys on the Semmering railway.

Architecture and sport in Semmering

A glamorous crowd also gathered in Semmering. Magnificent buildings such as the grand Panhans hotel, private hideaways like the Looshaus, and attractive villas reflect this. Just like today, guests plays on the greens of the Semmering Golfclub, Austria’s oldest golf course. Indeed, the downhill track in Bikepark Semmering and Lower Austria’s unique World Cup Ski Slope did not exist back then.
