History
In 1823 and 1825 mining of hard coal began in Grünbach am Puchberg. The market town experienced an economic boom as a result, which was further strengthened by the extension of the Schneeberg railway line. The main line of the Schneeberg railway thus fulfilled important transport tasks.
The closure of the Grünbach mine took place in 1965 due to the ever increasing costs of mining and transport, and in 1966 the Schneebergbahn was integrated into the southern railway line.
