The Wiener Neustädter Canal is an artificial watercourse under the Enns river in the Archduchy of Austria that was put into operation in 1803 and extended to a length of 63 km. Wood, bricks and coal in particular were transported to Vienna from the area south of the Danube. Since later, private owners primarily pursued railway projects and redesignated important parts of the waterway as a railway line, canal shipping declined sharply from 1879 and stopped completely before the First World War.

Today, the beginning of the Wiener Neustädter Canal is in the immediate vicinity of the High Bridge and leads over a length of 36 kilometers to the mouth of the Mödlingbach. The artificial and open channel is supplied with water from the Schwarza and the Pitten via the Kehrbach and the Katzendorf supply channel. The maximum width of the canal is 10 meters and the water depth is about one meter.

In the summer months from the beginning of May to the end of September you can explore the Wiener Neustadt canal yourself by boat. The boat rental can also be reached by bike via the Eurovelo 9 thermal cycle path. Barbecues take place regularly in summer, and a small menu for a quick snack is available all year round.
