Ottohaus
Lodge / hutDescription
Rest where Sigmund Freud was a regular guest: in the Ottohaus at 1,644 metres above sea level. Freud often stayed at the Knappenhof in Reichenau an der Rax. From there he regularly hiked along the Törlweg to the refuge, which was named after Archduke Otto of Austria. Since 1893, the Ottohaus on the Rax plateau has been a centre of attraction for hikers and mountain lovers. Whether leisurely walks or challenging climbing tours, the diverse Rax Plateau inspires every nature lover.
Home cooking and nature experience
For culinary refreshment, enjoy the view of the imposing Felstörl. From the terrace and the nearby viewing platform, the view even extends into the valley. In the "Alpengarten Rax", nature enthusiasts discover edelweiss, gentian and around 200 other plant species of the Rax and Schneeberg region on 4,000 square metres.
Hiking huts
The Ottohaus can be reached via idyllic paths and trails of varying degrees of difficulty. The Rax cable car offers the most comfortable journey: from its mountain station at the Rax-Alm Berggasthof, it is only about half an hour's hike to the refuge.
The popular "Hüttenhüpfen" (hut hopping) continues from the Ottohaus to the Neue Seehütte.
