Details for: Snowshoeing: Sima Hut-Herrgottschnitzer-Franz Kaupe House

Brief description

Beautiful hike from the Sima hut near Unterberg (St. Corona) up to the Herrgottschnitzer-Franz-Kaupe Hut on Kampstein which is open all year round.

Description

The snowshoe hike starts at the Sima hut near Unternberg/St. Corona, near the lower station of the Sima lifts "mini ski area". It Sima hut is only open in summer for two wine taverns lasting several days and can otherwise only be rented for private celebrations. Parallel to the lift, you will walk up switchbacks towards Kampstein. Here you can trudge through the snow in the forest and enjoy the peace and fresh air. The destination or rather the intermediate stop of the tour is the Herrgottschnitzer hut one named in honour of Franz Kaupe. At the hut, which is open all year round, hungry guests can expect delicious, homemade cream slices and warm delicacies. Here, dog fans can also meet the hut owner´s huskies, who love being petted. In addition, you are rewarded for the one and a half hour ascent with a beautiful view of the ever-changing area. From the Hergottschnitzer hut, there are different possibilities to continue hiking. Experienced and well-conditioned hikers can climb the Kampstein peaks from here to 1467 metres above sea level. If you don't have so much time, you can hike back down into the valley, either on the same path as the ascent, to the Sima hut or via Orthof to Unternberg. The alternative ways from the Herrgottschnitzer can be seen on the "Kampstein loop".

Route description Snowshoeing: Sima Hut-Herrgottschnitzer-Franz Kaupe House

We start heading westward uphill about parallel to the ski lift. We will keep going straight until we get to a T-junction. Here we will turn right. From now on, it will go up in switchbacks. We will turn sharp left, keep right at the next fork and soon turn sharp right. After a short stretch, we will reach a fork where we turn left. We will now follow the path that leads us through a left-hand bend and a right-hand bend to a junction near the upper station of the Sima lifts. Here we will make a sharp left turn. Continue along the road to the left, then we will keep right and cross a road. Again on our way, we will turn left once and then go straight ahead to the Herrgottschnitzer-Franz-Kaupe House.
