Klamm-Schottwien railway station

The station Klamm-Schottwien on the Kobermannsberg is a stop on the Southern Railway - the historic Semmering Railway in the Viennese Alps. Particularly exciting: the cliff drops almost vertically down to Schottwien. In addition to regional trains to Payerbach-Reichenau and Semmering and Mürzzuschlag, express trains to Vienna and Mürzzuschlag also stop here.

The safe highlight of this section of the railway line is the Klamm Tunnel, which is around 190 metres long. Its construction in 1851 was considered an extremely difficult and dangerous undertaking. Today, the Klamm castle ruins are an adventurous eye-catcher for rail travellers leaving the tunnel.

The well-known railway hiking trail leads along the entire UNESCO World Heritage route of the Semmering Railway. The scenic section from Semmering to Klamm-Schottwien station is around 15.5 kilometres long.

Family tip: Short Klamm hike up the Kreuzberg mountain

A short hike leads from the station Klamm-Schottwien through the village. Past the ruins and the parish church, the route leads up to the Kreuzberg - and then back to the starting point. The Khun country house, built according to plans by Adolf Loos, stands on the Kreuzberg: today it houses the Hotel-Restaurant Alpenhof. The gorge hike, which takes around 1.5 hours, is also and especially suitable for families due to the short walking time.
