Information Center at Station Semmering

Description

The Semmering Railway is one of the greatest engineering achievements in 19th century railroad construction and to this day the railroad has lost none of its appeal. Every year, more than 12,000 people visit the Semmering Railway Information Center, which presents the history and significance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, with free admission.

The information center is located in the station building at Semmering. Nearby, hotel buildings and villas bear witness to the tourist impulses of the railroad for the Semmering region. Numerous exhibits and a model of the "Kalte Rinne" viaduct provide information about the eventful history.

A film on the subject of world heritage is shown in the multimedia room and literature ranging from illustrated books to hiking guides can be purchased in the store. If you want to learn more about the railroad, you should also visit the Südbahnmuseum in Mürzzuschlag. Here, in addition to Austria's largest collection of trolley and motorized railroad cars, there is also a recreated k.u.k. Café wagon.
